Senior Program Officer, Scholarship Programs

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) exists for one simple reason: to strengthen America by advancing the college
education of Hispanic Americans. HSF is committed to the mission of doubling the rate of Hispanics earning a bachelor’s
degree to 18% by 2010.
Reporting Relationship
The Senior Program Officer reports to the Senior Director of Programs.
Responsibilities
Manage portfolio of new and existing College Scholarship programs, which distribute approximately $4 million in
scholarship awards to more than 3,500 students annually.
Manage the administration of scholarship programs and internships: developing application materials; mailings to
students and contacts; processing and acknowledging incoming application materials; data entry of applications;
processing enrollment verification or other follow up documentation; processing master lists and check requests;
mailing notification, award or regret letters; running scholarship database reports; assisting at scholarship reads;
recruiting interns; interviewing interns.
Manage student, donor and contact relations to ensure the successful implementation, administration and future
funding of scholarship programs.
Analyze, assess and improve existing scholarship programs and processes to ensure that they continue to provide
value to students and donors.
Work closely with the Senior Director of Programs and the IT team in managing the on-line scholarship application
process.
Work closely with the Senior Director of Programs, Development and Outreach to conceptualize, develop and
implement new scholarship programs that will increase our ability to provide valuable opportunities for students.
Work closely with the Senior Director of Programs, Development and Outreach to develop collaborative donor
management strategies to ensure effective donor stewardship, including implementation of funding restrictions.
Work closely with Development to complete donor narratives, grant and progress reports as needed.
Work closely with Scholarship team to ensure consistency in the implementation and administration of scholarship
programs and processes and to ensure that all scholarship programs align with HSF’s vision and mission.
Supervise scholarship processing team.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
6+ years of work experience in college financial aid or similar higher education role.
Strong background in working with databases and proficiency in Microsoft Projects, Word, Excel and Visio.
Knowledge of automated on-line application processing.
Knowledge of process flows and process improvement methodologies.
Excellent verbal communication skills, strong strategic thinking ability, and outstanding writing, editing, and
proofreading skills.
Strong supervisory or managerial experience; outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to
prioritize and handle multiple tasks/projects.
Solid understanding of the university/academic process, college admissions and financial aid.
Sensitivity to—and knowledge of—issues affecting Hispanic students. Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
