Job Description
Senior Manager, Internal Communications Department: Media & Communications Responsibilities: The Senior Manager, Internal Communications, will work closely with the Vice President, Media & Communications and the SVP, Human Resources, to develop and implement effective and appropriate internal and employee communications strategies to enhance the ASPCA employee experience and organizational effectiveness. In addition, this position will work closely with other members of the Media & Communications team to ensure internal and external communications are synchronized, as well as cross-functionally with other staff members/departments as necessary. Day-to-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Identify and implement communications strategies and message content for internal audiences in a variety of formats including, but not limited to the Intranet, talking points and presentations for face-to-face communications, memos, email, brochures, etc., as well as in other media, as needed - Identify ways to ensure consistent delivery of information across the various departments of the ASPCA, while allowing for enough flexibility so that each can adapt to accommodate the particular needs of their staffs; - Utilize a cross-section of media to enhance one-way and two-way message creation and delivery - Regularly evaluate internal and employee communications methods to improve quality and cost-effectiveness - Create, improve on and implement appropriate internal communications materials vehicles to improve organizational communications, such as newsletters, Town Halls, webcasts, etc. - Develop and assist in intra- or inter-departmental communications as requested by program staff and approved by supervisor - Work as part of a cross functional team as required by supervisor that may include members from, but not limited to, Human Resources, IT, Web team and the President’s Office to streamline internal communications - Create an internal communications style guide for the organization - Be a member of the core crisis communications response team - Support organization-wide HR projects that require communications expertise - Be the organization’s internal brand ambassador and ensure a cohesive brand identity within the organization - Ensure internal communications are aligned with external communications - Research, hire and manage vendors as needed for internal communications projects Qualifications: - Five to seven years of strategic communications experience in journalism, marketing, public relations, employee communications, speech writing, editing, human relations (preferably in a corporate or agency setting). - Demonstrated track record of providing communication solutions at all organizational levels - Knowledge of trends and best practices in organizational communications and related technologies - Strong leadership, consulting, interpersonal and team skills; also strong project management, planning, and presentation skills - Highly motivated team player with a proactive communications mindset - Ability to think strategically and understand the big picture - Excellent and creative writing, editing, design and presentation skills; experience with web content and design strongly desired. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a team environment - Ability to interact effectively with senior executives, colleagues throughout the organization, and employees at all levels - Experience designing, planning and managing communication projects to deliver value-added solutions on time and within budget. - Willingness to travel when required Years of Experience: - 5-7 years Background: - Prior experience in public relations and/or communications necessary; agency experience a plus - Affiliations with public relations/communications organizations such as PRSA, IABC, IPR, etc., a plus; APR or ABC-accredited candidates will be given preference Level of Education: - BA/BS degree in communications, journalism or related field. Comparable work experience may be substituted for a degree Additional Information: Must be a legal resident of the United States and be able to provide proof of authorization to work in the United States
