Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and implement a strategic plan for the cultivation and solicitation of an assigned portfolio of up to 250 Major Donor prospects with the potential to make $5,000+ annual gifts and/or multi-year pledges. Achieve annual revenue goal and assist in meeting departmental and campaign goals. With support of Major Gifts Coordinator, increase the number and quality of Major Donor prospects through networking and cultivation.
- Conduct visits and other high-level interactions with prospects, documenting actions as appropriate.
- Build relationships with ASPCA program staff, communications staff, and others to acquire the information needed to solicit gifts and build donor relationships effectively.
- Collaborate with other development staff, particularly the Direct Mail team, fellow Major Gifts Manager, and Major Gifts Coordinator to strengthen major gifts strategies, enhance creative approaches to upgrading select Founder’s Society and Guardian Program donors, and assist in prioritization of major gifts portfolios.
- Manage Major Gifts Coordinator to coordinate correspondence and proposals to major gifts prospects and to ensure that all related major gifts requests are closed on schedule. Strategize closely with Major Gifts Coordinator and other Major Gifts Manager particularly in the qualification and stewardship stages of donor’s giving cycles.
Qualifications:
- Capital campaign gift cultivation and solicitation experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively and professionally with executive staff and board members and to build productive relationships with major gifts prospects.
- Commitment to goal attainment, high degree of initiative, and ability to motivate and engage high level volunteers and donors.
- Demonstrated ability to work with high degree of autonomy and accountability and to be a team player.
- Ability to develop and follow through on creative and effective solicitation strategies and to generate enthusiasm for them among team members.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
Years of Experience:
4 to 5 in non-profit development, at least 3 of which have been in direct solicitation
Background:
4 to 5 years of non-profit development experience
Level of Education:
Bachelors degree
Additional Information:
Strong interest in animal welfare and/or familiarity with New York philanthropic circles preferred.
