Job Description
# Title: Public Relations Assistant REPORTS TO: Chief Marketing and Communications Officer SCOPE: The Public Relations Assistant supports the Chief Communications Officer and Public Relations Coordinator with all assigned public relations, marketing and communications activities. This position assists with the execution of public relations plans, monitoring media placements, designing and distributing media kits, scheduling interviews for Foundation staff, trustees and athletes, writing public relations materials and various organizational tasks associated with the communications department including budget and finance tasks. This position is located in NYC Responsibilities: 35% Assist in execution of public relations tasks for events and programs # Help to create, maintain and update media lists # Distribute public relations materials including press releases, media alerts and statements # Track media placement and create media wrap-up reports. Ensure distribution of timely correspondence with journalists. # Ensure timely processing and execution of ordering of PR materials and needs 20% Media Relations # Update media section of WSF.org and internal database # Conduct research to meet journalists’ needs and on pertinent WSF issues # Help maintain relationships with media by ensuring appropriate and timely distribution of correspondence. 15% Tracking Coordination of PR materials and documentation # Respond to requests for PSAs and media kits. Maintain organizational communications including video library, press releases, media alerts and media lists. # Track PR and communications budget lines, record expenditures, process invoices 20% Writing/Editing for WSF publications/web site: # Write and editing press releases, athlete bios, program features, scripts, fact sheets and WSF publications # Contribute to WSF publications (newsletters, event programs, GoGirlGo program materials, etc.) and web site 10%General Expectations # Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the staff, board, WSF members and the public through: 1) Positive and constructive approach to all tasks 2) Respect for the competencies of others 3) Appropriate conflict resolution behavior # Contribute to the financial stability and success of the Foundation: 1) Identify or implement actions resulting in financial savings 2) Contributes to the generation of new revenues 3) Stays within the adjusted budget on lines for which the employee is responsible # Adheres to financial procedures # Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the staff, board, WSF members and the public through: 1) Positive and constructive approach to all tasks 2) Respect for the competencies of others # Contribute to a clean working environment # Other responsibilities as assigned Qualifications: # Bachelor 's Degree in Communications (or related field) with excellent journalistic writing skills # Good knowledge of sports # Good verbal communications # Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize assignments # 1 year PR/communications experience Excellent writer # Good organizational skills and ability to work independently # Flexible and able to change projects very quickly # Must work well with others in a dynamic environment under tight deadlines
